Eff You, Department of Labor!

Filling out unemployment application:
"Under the law, benefits can only be paid to a claimant who is determined to be totally unemployed."

Well, I'm not determined to be totally unemployed, but if you want me to, I guess I will.

Also, under ethnicity, the only options are "Hispanic," "Non-Hispanic," or "Do not wish to answer." Hmmm. And...after being on hold for two whole hours, and being on the phone for about an hour, my day has gone to waste. Thanks, Labor Department! You'd think they would want us the unemployed to spend their time in a better way, but oh well.

Stay tuned for day two of the Adventures of Jenny Eternally On Hold.

Comics. Yep.

Google has added some sort of comics thing to my dashboard...I believe it's called "GoComics." Anyways, thought I'd share the best ones from today.

Oh, Doonesbury, you're always so right.

Life Sucks Now That I'm Older

The first thing I do ever Sunday when I wake up is check PostSecrets for a new batch. One of today's seemed especially fitting for how I feel right now in life. I won't go into bitching about all my problems, but let's just say, the days of simple pleasures are pretty much gone. I remember when my parents buying me a Snickers bar every now and then could make me the happiest person in the world. Now, not even Snickers can do the trick.

Making a few minor adjustments...hold tight!

N.A.S.A. video

To all my J5 friends out there, check out this video. Chali 2na is on it. Also, for all my friends who like good music, David Byrne is on here too. Sweeeet!

Here's the lowdown on N.A.S.A., and no, it's not the whole space thing, duh.

Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon are close to releasing an LP from their N.A.S.A. (North America/South America) project. The duo cook the beats, and turned to their enviable contact list to collect a headspinning list of contributors, including Tom Waits, Karen O, Nick Zinner, Spank Rock, David Byrne, M.I.A., RZA, Method Man, George Clinton, Chuck D, John Frusciante, and Ol' Dirty Bastard. Yes, ODB, which should give you an idea of how long this thing's been in gestation. The caught Kanye for this track, "Gifted," before he discovered his 808 or his heartbreak, so for those who like their Ye served sans autotune, get ready to enjoy lots of lyrics about being under-appreciated (right), linked to Santi defiantly singing about knowing what she's fighting for (but never telling) by a little bit of Lykke doing studio-snipped syllabic scatting and helping on the hook. It's mostly a vent session for a trio of ascendant artists to bitch about how it ain't easy being gifted, y'all, but it's got those ruptured-tweeter/club-cut synths that the Justice fans take their drugs to and the N.A.S.A. dudes bring an authentic feel so certainly you can dance to it.

DeVotchKa @ Webster Hall

DeVotchKa came to New York and I wrote about it. My lovely friend and Denver Post Pop Music Critic Ricardo Baca posted it on the Denver Post's music blog, Reverb. Check it out!

Also, here are a few videos I took at the show.
